[ alfyn is just sitting at the corner of one of the benches around the pyre, elbows on his knees, hands together, forehead against his knuckles. he's not looking up, but he does seem to be talking quietly to himself as he stays there. against the seat next to him is his axe, blade cradled by the dirt and handle within reach.
his head turns, just a little, against his knuckles when he realizes that someone's joined him. but he settles back into a quiet prayer that he lets the crackle of the flames whisk away before he says anything audible. ]
... hey, Lucas. Was just sayin' some prayers for 'em, and for us.
[Poses of prayer are very familiar to him, at least, so he'll move to sit a polite distance away without saying or doing anything that might interrupt him. It's fine enough; his attention drifts to the pyre tiredly, and is a bit slow to return to Alfyn when he speaks.]
Thank you for that. It does feel like the very least we can do...
[Even if Riverdale might interrupt them.........]
...I'd like to be able to tend to their bodies properly, as well, but I wonder if that would be asking for too much.
Our gods are all a long ways off, it feels like, but maybe it'll do somethin' to ease their way, if not our hearts.
[ he sits up properly, head tilting back to look at the unfamiliar sky above the pyre. honestly, he's never been much of a praying man on the daily. but this place sure is making him into one - even at the risk of interruption from whatever powers that riverdale be. ]
Might be. [ wryly ] We got a lot of extra wood in the theater, though, from the broken benches - the ones that were already busted up before all this.
I was thinkin' of breakin' some of 'em down and maybe makin' markers for the three of 'em. Stone'll be harder to come by, at least anythin' we could actually work with. But I got an axe. Might as well do somethin'.
Yes... And no matter how far away God - any god - may feel, they're surely much closer than expected.
[Lucas, firm in his belief that a manic goat cult can't possibly be stronger than every other god in existence out there like why they hell would they be summoning a goat god in the first place if that were true!! He hates cults so damn bad.
Looking over at the mention of markers, though.]
...Would you like some help? To set them up, if nothing else.
[He doesn't have an axe or skills with anything that require fine details, but he can at least. Stick things in the ground or something damn.]
[ he shoots a baleful look in the direction of the church, where i'm not sure if we can see the fuckin. goat. stainglass or not from the pyre, but he hates the place and the goat. sorry about your house, lucas. ]
If nothin' else, I'm gonna keep callin' on the gods of Orsterra. There's thirteen of 'em - somebody's gotta hear me and Rondo eventually if we keep sendin' a prayer their way every time we need the guidance.
[ TCH, but anyways. he looks at lucas then. ]
Wouldn't mind the help or the company, friend. I don't have a hand for anythin' finer than choppin' wood, so maybe we can make an affair of it if we're able to say some rites and somebody can do the writin' on the markers.
An attempt's bein' made. I'll report back if we get anythin', though. [ he'll take the lightness, because they need some levity in all of this. good for the soul. ]
Think it'd be nice to just... do somethin'. Even if we can't tend to 'em, we can at least send 'em on their way, say goodbye somehow.
[ boothill was, unfortunately for all of us, very likeable. terrible. ]
... I know it's always helped me, havin' a grave marker to talk to when the person's not there.
[Very terrible! BOOTHILL!!!!! NU YUUL AND NAT ARE MY ENEMIES FOR LIFE.
He just nods in agreement, though. With all of this, pretty much. He is very fantasy Catholic, so the notion of sending the dead on their way in any way possible and being able to visit a grave in the aftermath is very familiar to him, which is comforting in its own way.]
I believe it might give those left behind even the smallest bit of peace, too. ...If not peace, at least something to focus on.
[IT'S BEACH TIME. Lucas is out near the water, gazing as far out into the sea as he can look. He seems right at home in this environment, even if the island he's used to is much more temperate and less tropical-ish.
He'll also raise a hand in polite greeting when he spots Alfyn! Hewwo.]
A nice change of pace, don't you think?
[He is still perhaps a bit unnerved by the suddenly abandoned houses but at least they get to shower now...]
Things are a lot more better, here, than they are at the village. Lots of stuff that's probably "too good to be true." So there's gonna be a catch, eventually.
[ he's hopping to take his boots off, one by one, before stuffing his socks into them and making his way over to lucas. sorry that his wave is returned, but also that he has no concept of personal space when it's affection week. he comes to stand right next to him. ]
Just gotta enjoy it and make the best of it, like the whole rest of the situation.
[WELCOME TO THE SHORELINE... He doesn't seem to mind how close Alfyn is standing. Affection week pulls so much weight.]
That's a way of looking at things that I can't disagree with. Being able to maintain your spirits in the face of a trying time is a very valuable skill to have, don't you think?
[It will not save them from cultists but this is fine.]
[ it really does. especially when you're actively catholic and probably have something wrong with you. looks at aki
anyways he bumps up against lucas, just a little. a small, companionable nudge, as they look at the waves. ]
Definitely. I was talkin' to Mr. Daan about how we need to keep morale up, so... I'm gonna do my best to help with that. Look on the bright side where we can.
[ me: oh the infamous nat and yuul, how exciting! me: oh i'm gonna get cr with nu that's fun! them: ehehohohoho ]
I can get the pieces together tonight, probably. After that... it's down to findin' people to help spruce 'em up, and anybody that might want to do somethin' for rites, or words, or... whatever else we can do.
[ aerith prettifying this attempt at doing nice things for their dead even if their PLAYERS DON'T DESERVE IT! ]
Affection week really does pull so much weight and continues to do so as Lucas's response to the lil nudge is brief surprise, before he bumps right back.]
This is certainly the bright side in a very literal sense... I've heard more than one person talk about how grateful they are to see the sun again.
[Himself included because he is from an island and even if it's temperate and not tropical, he's more used to blue skies...]
[u can hit me with dealer's choice!! no cws im good with whatever you think would be most interesting
Lucas, in the meantime, currently stands in front of the sign in the swamp. His arms are crossed over his middle and he's looking Very Concerned what the hell is happening here.]
[ setting this long before the party because everything happens so much. alfyn is wandering the mall curiously, peeking in here and there at the various locations that fill the place up. ]
You guys really do have so much more stuff... what're the places you've spent the most time in, Lucas?
[EVERYTHING HAPPENS SO MUCH MY GOD. But he's just hanging out by Just Cats with a kitty in his lap, and he'll raise a hand to greet Alfyn as he wanders by.]
Oh... Well. I tend to spend a lot of time at the church. [OF COURSE.] But people do like the amusement parks, so I've been there several times. I think I spend the most time here, though, really. For the food and the cats. Have you found anything you like?

Do let the rest of us know if you manage to make it through. [Said lightly and mostly just for banter, but imagine how funny that would be.]
Mm... Karlach may want to join, in that case. Mathis and Yuffie, as well.
