Daffodils symbolize rebirth, new beginnings, hope, joy, and good luck. Much of this symbolism arises from the fact that daffodils emerge each spring to light up barren landscapes with their cheerful yellow, orange, and white flowers. The bulb, leaf, and flower are used to make medicine. Despite serious safety concerns, people take daffodil for whooping cough, colds, and asthma. They also take it to cause vomiting.

[ catch the man, the myth, the legend, the trailblazer himself, in the mortuary, opening and closing the coffins rapidly as if that will help him uncover the secret scratcher.

caelus wears his favored clothing, recovered from the swamp boxes. ]

[ we love him we cherish him, we are impressed he's not in the trash atm.

alfyn, meanwhile, is dressed proper again as well. the axe he has in his belt at the back, beneath his vest, is actually much bigger than the one that's in the concept art sketch in white, but his belt stays secure anyways through jrpg logic.

he stankeyes the mortuary a little, because the vibes are awful. but he pauses when he hears the creak creak creak creak of the coffins with a raised eyebrow. ]

You uh. You findin' anythin'?

[ considering the state of the entire town, caelus is swimming in trash and disrepair. he's in his element, albeit without his preferred found family so that's kind of sad. caelus pauses in his task to eye up the newcomer. cool hair. cozy clothing style. designated: bud. ]

Nothing so far. If it's a hidden microphone and speaker, they're too small for me to find them. It could also be a spirit, but wouldn't it have shown itself by now?

[ alfyn greengrass is 6'1" of bud. he's laios built: sturdy, but you know for a fact that while he could kick someone's ass, he could also give you such a good hug. ]

A what and a what? [ he might be designated: bud, but he's also a fantasy hick. ] A spirit, I guess, at least could just be playing the long con. Or isn't able to show up?

I dunno a super lot about ghosts, though.

[ uwaaa indeed. what a man, what a man. caelus observes this height and build and wonders if he could convince hick-bud to move the coffins altogether. see if it's a trap door behind or beneath. ]

The closest I've gotten to ghosts were Heliobi, but they're not actually the spirits of the deceased, they're their own species of energy being that disguise themselves. But they're too aggressive to lie in hiding this long.

[ this is supposed to be top secret knowledge but the other's clothing makes it clear he's not of the xianzhou. ]

Sounds kinda like a demihuman.

[ those aren't top secret in orsterra, so he says that freely and without any concern. also any clue of this thought process from anyone, whether it's caelus or sae's. ]

Though, don't think demihumans can be ghosts or anything like that... they're pretty solid. [ hm ] Might just be something special for this place, maybe..?

What if we move the coffins or if I go inside of one? If you stay on the outside, you can get me out if anything goes wrong.

Let's try the moving option, first, just to see if there's anything. I don't want you getting stuck in anything me or you can't get you out of, though I got an axe. I can just bust it open if I gotta.

[ getting axed out of a coffin does sound super fun but might upset the possible-spirits maybe-haunting the mortuary. moving first it is. ]

We lift on three?

[ do i ask the mods about this oh no ]

[ help yeah you can probably ask them if moving the coffins does anything in your mod dm. me like surely there is nothing here. ]

On three. If you put your back into it, don't forget to lift with your knees, first, 'cause I don't have any of my medicines for pain management anymore.

[ but he rolls his sleeves up a little more, carefully nudging the lid/door open a bit so he can get a grip on the inside portion of the coffin's frame for better lifting. ]

[ turns out the coffins can be moved, and, once they are, they reveal......... nada. this was kind of a waste of time and muscle, but now caelus knows to lift from his knees so not a total loss.

an oof as they set the coffin back down. ]

Well, nobody can say we didn't try. What you just said, does that mean you're a doctor?

[ alfyn puts his hands on his hips and looks at the coffin with a frown when they discover nothing. boo... this means caelus is going to have to go into it, so he'll be ready to break him out if he has to. ]

Well, means you can pop in and see if anything happens. Fingers crossed it's a no, though, but worth trying. [ he does nod, though. ] That I am! An apothecary, so I specialize in concoctions and physical treatment instead of magic healing like a cleric. Strong enough concoction can imitate their healing, though, if you know what you're doing.

[ caelus also puts his hands on his hips. bit of instinctive copy-catting because it's fun and free. ]

Considering we've all had our abilities locked down, that's more useful than a healer for where we're stuck.

[ compliment given, caelus prepares to climb inside the same coffin they moved a second ago ]

[ it is fun and free. alfyn thinks it's cute in the kind of charming raccoon way that caelus has. ]

It'd be more useful if I had the herbs and stuff that, y'know, helped me make my concoctions. But I've been making cult robes into bandages, 'cause people have been donating theirs to me.

[ he'll drop his hands off his hips in preparation for bailing him out of the coffin, though, if he must. ]

[ without realizing it had a use, caelus donated his cult robes to the swamp when he insta-changed after receiving his old threads. the leeches have made a new home from it by now. ]

All right, count to three and then try to open it even if I don't start banging and shouting.

[ reasonable, yeah? caelus scoots himself into a neat li'l final resting place. crosses his arms over his chest to comfortably fit. ]

[ i genuinely cannot stress how many people have given me their robes for alfyn's cause, a few of them being tossed into the pyre or the swamp is fine. ]

Jeez... Knew I'd not like this, but seeing it is a whole other thing. Alright, on the count of three again - bang if something happens before then?

[ but he'll carefully close the lid to the coffin, no matter how much he hates this as a healer. ]

[ three seconds, three solid one-one-thousand counts go by.

nothing. silence. ]

week0 friday; after-invest/body reveal

[ caelus sits at a bench by the pyre, a leg drawn to his chest, the other off the edge, heel against the ground. he's turned in order to stare down the fire. somber as he hasn't been since their group arrival. ]

[concoctive]

[ the blue flare of the pyre makes him a little uneasy, for assorted reasons that aren't known but are regardless obvious as he glances at it briefly as he approaches. best to not focus too long on it - better, really, to focus on someone that's hurting. alfyn's good with that.

but he comes to sit down on the bench, leaving some personal space between them in caelus desires or needs it. and then he just sits there, propping his axe against his outer thigh on the other side of caelus. ]

[ silence for a while, but eventually he stops staring into the depths of blue. alfyn's been a good guy. dependable seeming. has a big axe (positive). ]

When he wasn't in the barn last night, I thought he was off somewhere having fun.

[concoctive]

[ the corner of his mouth quirks up sadly, sympathetic. ]

Bunch of us got stuck at the pyre, when the fog got real thick. It wasn't letting us pass. But he wasn't one of 'em there - so we're gonna have to ask around, find where he was and who he was with.

'cause I'm not sure if any of us that live at the theater were there last night.

Was Cloud with you? He and Aventurine were hanging out--but that might have been because of someone's affinity powers. I don't know.

Yeah, he was. Him, Aerith, Yuff, Gojo, Iwa, Nona, and Karma, if I remember right.

[ CAELUS YOUR 5* ARE ABANDONING YOU did you know ara is historically known for smashing betrayal on people? you're going to have to staple robin to life. ]

It might've been, though. Not sure what everybody's got - just mine, and I haven't told anybody it yet. [ not the point though. he kind of gauges caelus and his current state of being, before shifting closer and lifting the arm nearest him up to offer some comfort? a hug? ] You knew the guy before the village, huh.

[ bold of you to assume i owe any of you anything and won't turn to betrayal myself as a self-defense mechanism. yeah. think about it, hero.

I told one person. They're gone now.

[ a very simple puzzle, shouldn't be too hard to put one and one together.

he notices the arm and hesitates before leaning in. a hug, huh? that sounds nice after all the death and misery. a firm squeeze. not bad. ]

there's a wince with that, though, and he gives a small nod with a look of sympathy. but he does give him a hug, because - well, someone grieving can always use comfort, and alfyn is the type of person willing to give it. emotional competency and vulnerability are on his profile for a reason.

and he gives caelus that firm squeeze, trying to let him know that at least he's not alone. ]

Sorry, Caelus. Know it's not a lot, considerin', but I mean it. Seen a lot of loss to know what it looks like on somebody else.
