[ ( spins rng wheel ) alfyn stands in the doorway of the barn, axe secured in the back of his belt underneath the long, green vest he now wears - but still visible by the handle sticking out at an angle - and hand secured on the strap of his satchel as he considers the structure. ]

... less weird than the place with the coffins, I guess. [ although he freezes when he sees a rat pop out of the straw, eyeballing it warily until he relaxes at seeing that it's not. sentient. or very big. ] Man, it's just us and rats, isn't it. Where is everybody?

[ Man standing at the barn... Aventurine must bother.

So here he is, dressed in his actual clothes and not an ugly robe, suddenly standing next to Alfyn as he peers into the barn. ]

Could they have turned into the rats?

Gah! [ predictably jumps as he's joined, especially with that greeting and already kind of on edge - but he doesn't lash out, just pivots to look at him like ????? ]

... sure as heck hope not. There's demihumans back home that're ratkins, but they're always ratkins. Not. People turned into them.

[ WOULD THEY GET TURNED INTO RATS TOO? ]

Wow! I was mostly joking, but now I'm fully invested in this.

[ RATKINS? That sounds all kinds of wild. ]

If they don't turn into rats, does that mean they have rat-like features?

"Mostly" means a part of you was already kinda serious, man...

[ alfyn rubs his chest to soothe his heart. ]

Yeah, they do. They can walk around on two legs like people, or scamper around, and they're like... most of the common ones are the size of kids, but they can get real big, too.

It sounds like you come from an interesting place, friend.

[ Ratkins... He will remember this. In the meantime, Aventurine looks back into the barn, one hand settling against his hip as he tilts his head to the side. ]

Doesn't seem like anyone has lived in this town for quite some time. Practically everything's in disrepair.

Home's home. Plenty of people here have more interesting sounding places, with what little I've learned so far.

[ but alfyn shifts his weight to look in as well, peering up into the roof to see if it's sturdy. ]

The theater looks like it's gonna drop under a single step, but at least this place looks a little more sturdy. Still not great.

[ EHEHEHE THANK. know that the temptation to give aventurine a peacock flower instead was real, but their fire colors didn't feel right. also symbolism. ]

Dunno yet - wouldn't be the worst place I've shacked up, but I'm more just trying to understand what we're working with, y'know? See if getting eyes on things with everybody will help us out any.

Well, barn's looking a lot better than the theater, and it doesn't have coffins in it.

You'd just have to share with the current residents. [ gesturing over his shoulder with a jerk of his thumb towards where the whack-a-mole rats are in the hay. poor rich man. ] Still, company helps in this creepy place, I figure? Better than any of us being alone.

The current situation isn't as bad as I'd initially feared. The people here... they're all quite inspiring.

I think we're all, mostly, just trying to make the best of it? And looking for what we can do with the situation. Can't really give up when we haven't even been here long.
