SCAWWY 😱 rondo

In the tapestry of floriography, the borage flower stands out as a symbol of emotional fortitude and joy. Its star-shaped blue blossoms have carried the weight of courage since Roman times, believed to embolden warriors on the battlefield. Borage flower and leaves are used for fever, cough, and depression.

that's... saintsbridge, he recognizes, dimly, before everything starts. the memory kicks off well enough, with rondo smiling a little to himself at the sight of ophilia - as pretty as always, on her way to do the kindling, he recognizes with a note of pride - but as these memories tend to go, everything takes a violent turn for the worse.
the apothecary's treatment bothers him at first too, and then... as things start to unfold, rondo watches in horror, his hand coming up to his mouth as miguel reveals his treachery. it's awful, it's the kind of darkness and avarice of the world that the flame stands so firmly against, and he's holding his breath as the memory finishes.
inhale. exhale. ]
...Oh, Alfyn...

[ it's not, really, but alfyn's getting used to being forced into seeing this man over and over again, now. ]
Gotta say, I'm not lovin' that some kinda twisted fate out there decided that we ought to match, but I like to think that it wanted me and Therion to be a set, instead. [ a weak joke, as he thumbs at the bottom of the cut across his left eye, where it ends in his cheek. ] Timmy's alright. That's what mattered most, then.

anyway. no, he reaches up and like absently touches under his own eye, thoughtful. ]
... I think you have a good perspective. [ that he could relate that to his friend instead of something so tragic. and... ] In many ways. You couldn't have known that man was going to do something like that. I probably would have done the same thing, were I in your shoes.
[ sometimes you're just a Good Guy ]

a small laugh escapes him, about not knowing that miguel would betray him - because it's not completely true, in some ways. at least, that's what people would say. have said. ]
He'd be mad if I pointed it out, I think. [ in regards to matching therion. but he shakes his head a little, rueful, smiling despite the pain of it. ] In other ways, I figure I had plenty of warnin' from folks, y'know? Therion was on edge, everythin' Ogen said, even what I heard about Miguel.
But I asked myself for a while if I did the right thing. Or if I'd do things differently, if I got the chance to. And... I don't think I would have. I think I'd still have helped him, even if I knew he'd turn on me. Maybe I'd have gone to the Knights once he was on the mend, but he still deserved the chance to live and make amends.

I think that's something I like about you, Alfyn. Your heart's very true.
[ because yeah. yeah, he does. he deserves the chance to be punished by the law, not... not like that. he's chewing it over, about what it means to be good - about taking the right path, and doing the right thing, about people who are not just good or evil. and... as he's doing so
memory time! ]

of course, another memory of betrayal. but this one slams into him and really is so much worse, after having such an uplifting, hopeful start to it with a savior to come in when he and cordelia needed it most. feeling the love, admiration, adoration, respect - and then the heart-wrenching sensation of standing on opposing sides. he can feel the way his own throat closes, the chill as the fire leaves.
as it fades, he just
reaches out to grasp rondo with this sudden understanding. ]
... oh, Rondo.
