Sure, why not. Weren't punished for taking things from the island... there was the tree incident last week, but while it was harrowing, nobody was harmed, and there was a clear supernatural aspect to all of that.

Not all of it! And I wouldn't uproot stuff until the last minute... I took a lot of things from the academy yesterday and nothin' else happened. But Pesti and I were tryin' to leave somethin' better behind for the dogwood and its friend, so hopefully it balanced out.

I've learned what pain killers are by this point, at least, and the ointment makes sense. But... [ he holds up... bug spray! and bear spray. along with the hot/cold patches.

Those first two aren't for medicinal use, don't spray them on injuries. They're bug and... bear repellant.

[ He's never had to use one so he's not sure what the hell is even IN bear spray. Is it just mace??? ]

The other two are compresses. Cold variety and hot variety.

Oh! Oh, that's useful - the compresses, moreso, though I guess the repellants are handy.

Mr. Daan..? [ where are you. holding up a water bottle in one hand, and his jar of salve in the other, like offerings. Even if you don't let me help directly, I hope you'll take these... ]

[ Pspsps... he's here. He looks slightly better than he did upon immediate CYOA-return, or you think he might? Given he had long sleeves, a mandarin collar, and his whole fringe and all on top of blood, it was hard to see, but it does look like the active bleeding actually has stopped. ]

[ He's not doing a great job of actually patching himself up swiftly though, not because he physically can't but because he just doesn't seem to have much of a drive to. He'll glance up when Alfyn enters, and hold a hand out for whichever of those he wants to give Daan first. ]

[ Are you crazy??? He's not from a fantasy it's so abnormal to fight animals. You can fight like three animals in F&H and one's a headless dog, one's a fully deformed dog that looks like an ugly baby, and one is a HORRIBLE HORSE that will KILL YOU. ]

alfyn can't help but frown at him, but he does decide to come closer and hand him the water bottle, first. it's mostly for drinking, but, honestly? he thinks he might need it for cleaning up. ]

I mean, I don't go outta my way to fight 'em back home. Sometimes you gotta if you can't scare 'em off, though, and most of the times the giant bugs don't really have as much sense as a bear or a lion would.

[ he's thinking that the bug repellant is for. like. last week's dog-sized spiders, not normal sized bugs. and his bears tend to look like this. ]

[ He apparently at least did get some cloth dampened first, and it is already bloody. Daan looks like he laid out some equipment at the minimum because around him is that, a few bandages, some other stuff visible in his bag, aaannnddd that is a spine. A super shrimpy spine, shape-wise, not size-wise. Size-wise it's about a proper person's.

He just nods somewhat vaguely, and then shakes his head. Wait no. ]

Are massive monstrous animals just a common thing in your home?

[ There's a fleeting thought of Nona with that, since he heard a little bit about her and what she did, but that's it. ]

alfyn looks at that for a hot minute before he registers that daan is being stupid, in his opinion, shaking his own head, both to reorient his attention and in disdapproval. ]

There's small stuff, too, like the marmots, meeps... hatchlings... they don't really do much unless you're not used to fightin' big ol' bastards like the bears, bulls, rhinos... some asps can get pretty big. Drakes...

[ leaning his hip against one of the cots thoughtfully, a more cartoony, animal crossing reaction-style thought of a meep popping up. ]

[ He can't even suddenly be a bitch because Alfyn was perfectly amicable and receptive to medcare after his own CYOA. He dully grabs some bandages from his set of equipment and rips off the tattered ends of his right sleeve first and peels off the glove. Which, that's fun, because he's missing his ring finger there. That one appears to be bandaged to some degree already though.

His forearm is just covered in almost ropey bruises and periodic deep gouges, like a thick claw or a thorn dug into him. He's just quietly wrapping that up to cover up the wounds so he stops being pressed about them. ]

You're from a more rural region, correct?

[ He knows hunting animals and the like is more normal compared to urban or suburbs so it's not like he can actually judge him for it or knock his animal-fighting abilities, but god. ]

some relief seeps in, but it's not much. he falls quiet as he does this, taking stock of his injuries and fighting back a grimace when he sees the damages - if he's too pushy, too loud with reactions or thoughts, daan might become more resistant to his own medcare.

so he just takes some of the bandages, unscrewing the mason jar and swiping two fingers through the salve so he can then spread it across the bandages. he'll offer them to daan as he goes, because at least it'll soak through any of the strips he's putting down already and hopefully dull his pain. keep them from getting infected. ]

... I have dried peaches from the island, if you want any. [ in return for the pieces of fruit daan fed him. ]

I am, yeah. No walls or guards to keep the critters out, so we see 'em pretty often, usually just passin' through. Was up to me and my friend Zeph to shoo 'em out if our hunters weren't around to do it.

Not that they don't get into the cities that do have walls, though. And demihumans will barge in to fight humans a lot, too.

[ He's fine with this, moving over to his left arm after. He doesn't need all of his fingers to be able to bandage......... but ta-da! Now both of his forearms are bandaged. His legs are in a similar state but he'll deal with that later, taking a cloth, dampening it, and wiping blood off of his face.

He's missing his eyepatch and it looks like he's got a number of scratches there, particularly bloody around his missing eye. Singular yike. But again fortunately it seems the bleeding has stopped anyway. ]

Have painkillers.

[ It's probably extremely few but it's something. His voice is hoarse and raw, there's a bruise on his throat visible when he unbuttons the top of it so he can clean off. ]

he'll accept this, for now, nodding as he settles down and lets him clean himself up. as he does that, he'll coat a few more bandages in salve in preparation for his legs, wondering for a moment if there's something in the costumes people kept that could work as an eyepatch. ]

Lavi carried him off before I could see to him, so I figure he's taken him to the swamp. I'm gonna try and check on them before we're locked in for the night, but he might want even less crowdin' than usual.

Ah, right, been a while...

They're smarter than just an average monster, like they build societies and use weapons, even if they don't speak like humans and just make, y'know. Monster noises. So they got called demihumans. There's eight kinds? Ratkins, lizardmen, birdians, froggens, apes, moles, caits, and octopuffs.

The last two are pretty harmless but are highly sought after 'cause they can yield a lot of rewards and are really rare.
